Good shot of him preening, Jerry. The left branch seems to make the centering work here. Beautiful hues on the wing. 6/7

all for your comments and suggestions. The picture is abit grainy because there was very limited natural light available and I had to set the ISO to 400 to be able to get 1/60 shutter speed. I am glad that the image came out alright.

Jerry, this is a very good shot. The cute move of the heron, the DOF, the colour are all great. Grains? I see none. Did you take advantage of the blurring tool? :o)

Now, the left branch. Paul said "the left branch seems to make the centering work here." I'm not sure if that was intended to be a compliment. If it was, then I think this is highly debatable. It reminds me of Balzac's most captivating hands in Auguste Rodin's famous sculpture. His friend said "Wow, these are the most beautiful hands I've ever seen!" Everybody knows what Rodin did in response. He chopped them off. They draw too much attention. Jerry, do you really want to draw our attention to the nice and attractive curve of the branch at the far left or the bird?

Hi Yuan, thanks for the comments. Well, I did think about cropping off the branch before I posted it but finally decided to keep it. Why? Because its shape fits in this picture and kind of serves as a frame purpose. My intention of keeping the branch is to draw viewers attention to the bird inside of the curve, not the curve itself.

Thanks for the explanation. It helps. I've just taken a quick look at your porfolio. Gosh, it took ages to download. 1083 photos!!! That's the largest personal photo porfolio I've seen so far on the Web. Great works! And you own "more than 100 cameras and 150 lenses"? You rock!

The bird itself is a work of art. The lighting, the details inthe feathers, the dof are all perfect. I could live with or without the branch.

Very nice pose captured, and the branch adds a very nice frame. Good job! Detecting a possible hint of oversharpening though - halos around the top left branch and bird.
