bryan olesen 0 Posted January 8, 2005 Okay Jerry, I'll be glad to be the first on this one. Awesome. Perfect background, crop, composition. Notice the contrast between the bird and the background - dark BG against light right wing, light BG against dark left wing, dark BG against light beak. Just enough catchlight in the eye. Can't get much better. Great work. 7/7. P.S. What aperture please if you have it... Thanks - B. Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 8, 2005 Hi B, here is the technical data. Nikon D1X, 70-200mm VR with TC-14E. Focal length at 280mm/f4.0 1/45 sec +0.3EV. Link to comment

arnabbanerjee 0 Posted January 8, 2005 Have you tried a different colored background? There is enough brightness difference here - but some color difference can make it even better. But that will require some digital manipulation. Even without that it is a good capture. 6/6 Link to comment
richard hans 0 Posted January 8, 2005 Jerry,This is the best I have seen in this kind, love the details & texture, color tones, lighting, comp.,good DOF. VERY WELL DONE! Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 9, 2005 Perfect DOF and I like the way the background matches the tones in the bird. I wouldn't want it contrasting at all. Very nice! Link to comment
bob_savas 0 Posted January 9, 2005 Perfect shot. The bg really frames this bird well. Much more photogenic than my bird http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3015587 Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 10, 2005 Be a great logo pic for a collection agency. Great pic Jerry, the colour seperation is superfine on the wings. DOF background perfect. Go pluggin in new backgrounds and i'm outta your fan club lol. Just a question. I wanna tele for my 80-200ed...so why u chose a 1.4? Was thinking a nikon 2x. Is there some downside to that besides speed, do u know?...7/7 Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted January 10, 2005 Glad you like the background and I swear that I'll not change it :) Why 1.4X instead of 2X? Well, I do have 2X but since I was in the zoo so there is really no need for the 2X (and my nikon D1X already give me 1.5X increased focal length). I do find 2X kind of lose sharpness a little bit and 1.4X doesn't seem to have this problem. Take a look at my American Avocet II. Picture was taken with 1.4X + 2X stacked up. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 28, 2005 You've finally done it! This has to be my all-time favorite J.T. bird photo. There is absolutely nothing I can think of to change or improve on it technically, nor is there any need to. I've been a huge fan of your style for quite awhile now, and although I always thought you improved picture by picture, I can't possibly imagine how you'll outdo yourself with this one. It is absolutely amazing and awesome. 10/10! Hope to see it on a gallery wall someday, and hope I'm there for your gallery opening! Many thanks for sharing! Link to comment
