You would think that people who love photography would take lots of

pictures of their children and Grandchilden. Unfortunately, that is

not always true. We photographers seem to look outside the family

for that great image thinking the grass is greener on the other

side. I disagree. I have taken hundreds if pictures of my children

& Grandchilden and put as much effort into those images as I would

any image that I make.

My Grandchildren, as young as they are, now have expectations

concerning the finsihed image. It better be very good and very

different or else. If you think Photo.net is tough, try using the

kids as critics.

I have a challenge. Let's make January kids month and see how many

of you can use your talent on your own family.

Strong Howard. They will say the face is too dark. Nonsense. This is it the way it is. Take it or leave it.

I wish I could participate. I don't have children or grandchildren ... and I may not get to see my nephews until too late in the month to jump into the challenge (although, maybe I'll pull some older images and see what I can do with them...) Or, maybe I'll get permission from the parents of some students to see if I can use some pictures I've taken of THEM. Hmmm... maybe I CAN play. :-)

Okay ... THIS image is great. As a GIRL, I see the sweater as a WONDERFUL accessory to a beautiful face. The colors are SO MUCH fun. She's cute ... and the sweater only helps. The leaning back posture is interesting, and you've kept good proportions (unless her legs are disgustingly thin!) Nice work!!

Very interesting effect, Howard. It's different, and the colorfulness is kept in the process. Kind of reflecting the girl's personality, possibly?

As for the challenge, I don't know where to begin, because every time I pick up a camera, my kids would disperse in different directions around the house. Lou Ann has a good idea. May be taking photos of schoolkids is the way to participate here.

I already take pictures of my family whenever I can, as you know from viewing my people folder. My family is all 2600 miles away, so can't do any current ones. Ed's niece and nephew are in Austin (3 hours away) and I've taken lots of them, too. I may pull some older ones, too.

I like the lighting effect here, Howard. The expression is sweet, too. It's a "posed" portrait and not usually my favorite kind (I prefer candids), but I do like this one.

I've already contributed by posting a portrait of my niece, Bella, two days ago. To view it, click here. I agree with Kim. This is a nice posed image with very nice lighting.

Howard, I cannot count the number of times my daughter has said "ewww mommy, don't put that one on the internet." She is my toughest critic and my favorite model as you can see from my portfolio. If I'm not taking pictures of my family there is something terribly wrong with me!

This one of yours is a cute as a button and the look on her face is great. A funny thing I find about children posing really comes out in this photograph when they can't figure out where to put there hands!

Nice shot of a smashing subject. I'm with Wilson on this as my kids all groan and walk away when the camera appears. That is a result of having about a million shots of them.

Love to participate, fortunately my girl (anabel) still enjoys the novelty of haveing a photograph taken and then rushing to see what it looks like on the review. though it may be difficult to get her to do any kind of pose... ;)
