robertbrown 1 Posted January 7, 2005 Comments appreciated on a corny sea lion shot--I must admit I love sea lions and their songs. Thanks for your comments. Link to comment
fishdoc 0 Posted January 7, 2005 An arresting photo. The title is amusing, and appropriate. There is a distraction on the neck of the animal on the right that could have been edited out. I also think a bit more contrast would add to the overall effect. Link to comment
johnw436 1 Posted January 7, 2005 I don't think the shark bite is a distraction. It makes me happy this guy can still sing! ...talented AND lucky. I love this photo. 6/7 Link to comment

robertbrown 1 Posted January 7, 2005 Thanks everyone for your nice comment. John H.: while I'll agree with you that the scar is a bit distracting, I can't just can't clone it out. One of things I love about these animals is their bodies which are a record of of how rough their live are. Most of them have one or more major scars: sharks (as John W. said), boat propellers, rocks, and rusted metal all leave a record on their bodies. On top of that local fisherman sometimes throw M-80's at them or shoot them with pistols. They blame the sea lions for the vanishing salmon runs, rather than 100 years of over fishing, a multitude of dams, and serious water pollution. For this reason, the scars have to stay. Guest Guest Posted January 11, 2005 Your critique request made me smile. Between you and me- I needed that. The scars should stay, you're right on every point. Knicki Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted January 21, 2005 A delightful shot, by all means. Upon looking at the thumbnail without title, I thought they really looked like singing along... and there came the amazing title. I just regret two small things, the DOF which does not make justice to the backmost sea lion, and the way its jaw is a bit too close to the head of the front one...On a side note, the scars on those animals are fascinating in themselves and should surely stay!
