Animals are the most difficult to shoot without the distracting red

eyes. Managed to get it rigt here with umbrella lighting. She's

really to lazy to pose, had to make a loud pop sound to get Buffy to

look up. Heheheh.

Attached is a picture posted by Zunnun of her black Persian cat very similar to Buffy. Now you can see why I say that it's difficult to get a cat to pose and be in focus. ^_^

I agree with you Alec. Nice composition and colours make this one a very good image of Buffy, the Beautiful.I love the cats of Singapore.

Thanks Sircar, Tuhin, I actually have 2 dogs and 2 cats. Benny my long haired dachshund passed away after 12 faithful years with us and we got a Shetland sheepdog "miniature collie". But a virus hit her and she left us after 1 year so we are now left with the 2 cats. My kids were so upset with the loss that we dare not get another dog. Perhaps one day we'll try again as dogs shower more feelings. Thanks for hearing our sob story. (*_*)

Good lord, getting ANY cat to pose without the use of duct tape and wire coat hangers is a minor miracle (and now you know why *my* cat runs whenever he sees the camera :-D). Cats can be very hard to shoot, and you've really done this one justice, I dunno if it is my monitor, or if its just the nature of the beast in the shot, but there doesn't seem to be as much detail in the fur as I think is really there...how did you light this one? Still a great shot (but I'm such a huge fan of black cats, partially because of the incredible fur textures).

Oh, and a comment on Zunnan's cat image: *priceless* :-D...

Thanks Sircar, Earle. I think it is your monitor as my notebook also don't show texture clearly unlike my Sony CRT 21 inch monitor in the office. There it's clear.

I think this one has more detail than the other cat shot. VERY hard to get black to come out right, but you've done it here. Just got a new high-res monitor and this looks very detailed on it! Nice lighting.

Alec & Kim, thanks....I had a feeling that this one was on its last legs, any recommendations for monitors?

Alton, actually CRTs are not in demand now except for graphic artists and photo freaks. All others use LCDs. So I recommend buying a good 2nd hand Sony or NEC 21 inch CRT. I'm sure you can find many in Taiwan at the used stores? You can get a 21 inch Sony CRT (used less than 2 years) for US$100 or less over here. You can actually calibrate the monitor to print WYSIWYG with Adobe CS. That's what I do and it's cool to know that when you hit print it will be at least 99% good all the time. ^_^

My new monitor is a 17" flatscreen high-resolution monitor by Dell. Haven't printed anything yet to test how it compares from screen to print, but I sure like the detail I see on this. My other monitor wasn't old (1 year), but I do see a big difference with this one while editing pictures in PS.
