The castle was built between 1506 and 1515 by Don Pedro Fajardo yChacón in Vélez Blanco, one of the towns he was given asreward for his assistance in suppressing Moorish rebellions in thelands of Andalusia.

Don Pedro, first Marquess of VélezBlanco and fifth Governor of the Kingdom of Murcia, was born probablyin 1478, belonging to the generation of Castilian nobles that came ofage during the reign of the Catholic Kings (as Ferdinand and Isabellaare known in Spain).

He was raised at the royal court and sponsoredby the queen at an academy for young nobles; there he learned to readand write Latin under the guidance of the brilliant Italian scholarand historian, Pietro Martire d'Anghiera.

This education revealsitself in the wealth of decorative images in thhis impressiverennaissance castle, not a warfare building but rather show of hismight and power: feudalism at its best (from artistic point of view)or at its worst (from many other points of view...).

Other exampleof his might can be seen in the castle of Mula which image is aldodisplayed in this portfolio

Aunque encuentro la luz algo irreal (Como virada al rosa) la composicion me gusta mucho.

I like the contras between the white houses and the pink/brown stone of the castle. The contrast emphasises the difference between them.

Bella y sobria toma (incluso el color, aun siendo Velvia!) con una equilibrada composicion. Perfecta esa luz de amanecer, aunque en mi monitor se ve un poco demasiado magenta.

Well, Alberto, today is the day I have gone crazy to mark all and any of my favorite of your pinkish skies! Thank you very much!
