Wreck of the Peter Iredale

robertbrown

A very good sunset for late fall on the Oregon Coast. It was blustery, with 20-30 mile an hour winds. This is most of what's left of the wreck of the Peter Iredale (wrecked in about 1900, not much left). Used a polarizer and warming filter.

Beautiful nearly abstract composition. The soft colors are a nice contrast to the graphic shape of the wreck. Your choice of shutter speed was just right. This image has a completely different mood than the photos from your earlier shoot of this location. (Ahem....It's just a shame you didn't shoot any photos below the water's surface.)

Robert, I'm interested in ships and shipwrecks too. I've been looking for interesting sites but in UK they tend to be in inaccsssible locations. (Probably the same everywhere given the nature of the beast). The long time exposure here gives a timeless quality to the shot though oddly I think I score the other one a little higher. I like the gritty reality in the other. But both very fine shots.

I really like the composition you went with here.  While it certainly is weighted to the right it doesn't seem "out of balance".  Strong angles with the ship contrast nicely with the perfectly level horizon.  Congrats on a great shot.
