racing - formula one Kimi Raikkonen - trying to get the McLaren/Mercedes sorted before Saturday qualifying in and effort to take the fight to the Ferrari of Michael Schumacher.

I shot this using AI Servo which I foud a tad slow (even in the

hairpin) and haven't posted this because it looks a little soft to

me. The following day, I decided to forego the AF and pre-focus and

employ MF for the remainder of the GP of Canada. Any constructive

criticism?

I must admit, I find it upsetting when the people here give ratings of 2/2 and aren't decent enough to write an explaination of their poor ratings.

 

I requested some constructive criticism so I can get better and one idiot just slams the photo without even a word of advice.... I feel that if people could feel superior enough to their peers here on photo.net, they also could have the decency to write a few words. Sad!

I like what you're doing with the angle thing. Don't worry about the 2/2 person. I wish they would set it up so one had to leave a comment in order to rate anything - now there's an idea. Unfortunately, it seems PN is set up to encourage rating first, comments second. Sometimes people who are new here rate without comment because they don't know any better (I did it out of ignorance when I first came here), and then sometimes they are just armchair critics who have nothing posted of their own and hence no credibility. I know exactly how you feel.

Thanks for the comment and I read your post regarding the comments BEFORE rating and see that this is a nerve running through the PN community. I write what I can in an effort to help others grow just as I need the help myself on my shots.... Too bad others don't share my point of view here that PN is a great learning tool or "soundboard" from which to sharpen our skills.

I really like the angle. I'm surprised that at f/11 there is not more depth of field. I guess the motion is too much to hold the DOF. I may try to get to Indy this year for qualifying. I have never seen a modern F1 car. I just need to hear those V10's scream before all the major rule changes take effect.

Having been to Indy, Silverstone, and Montreal... I would recommend Montreal over all the rest for photo options. Indy is a great place, but the safety barriers make it dificult to get an unobstructed shot.

 

As for the DOF, I don't think it was the speed of the car but more or less the lack of speed with the 10D's AF engine, more specifically, AI Servo. For that reason alone I am thinking of moving to the 1D mk II.
