afterthoughts 0 Posted December 18, 2004 I have to say, I like this better. You can almost reach out and touch the image like it's real. Best part is the white shirt which is hard to photograph. Perfect exposure. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted December 18, 2004 This is a tough one - I like the color version, too, but I lean a little more towards the sepia version. I really, really like the tones in that one. Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted December 18, 2004 I. LIKE. THIS. ONE. !!! If, and I say if, the color is right, you get a measure of realism you just can`t get with grayscale or monotone. After all, everything we see is in color, if we didn`t NEED color, color film would not have been invented. I love sepia photos, in fact, I have one or more in my portfolio right now, but I think this is an EXCELLENT color photo, and I think you done good. 7/7 Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted December 18, 2004 Jim's a very smart guy ... so I ought to always defer to him. But...... my preference is the sepia one, too. It seems to simplify what my eye is seeing in the image. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted December 18, 2004 The exposure is very good, so too dof/ blurring; I might have included the whole guitar if deciding to exclude the head. One cannot compare colour and mono anymore than male and female - one realm has to do with feelings, the other with technical accuracy : they compliment each other. When I wish to communicate an idea - I tend towards colour; when I desire to communicate an emotion / feeling I'll go towards mono / duo etc. Good colour is prosaically accurate, good mono is poetically moving. wilsontsoi 0 Posted December 18, 2004 Seven's analogy is wise, and enlightening. Indeed this works either way, but with this fellow, I think the sepia is just a hair more successful, IMHO. Still nice background clean up and shading, Ken. ^_^ Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted December 18, 2004 Ken- I think the composition and the clarity is wonderful. I agree with Seven re: color vs monotone. The only thing that bothers me is the glow over his right shoulder and head. I would lessen this glow. Just to show what I mean I am attaching a very fast correction, by no means is it a good one, but it should show you what I mean. Also- Got my 20D yesterday, WOW- what an improvement in the viewing screen! That is amazing! Hope to post some new images soon! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 19, 2004 Ken, I like both versions, as I like the subject. Each of them is touching another perception, ( nicly explained by Seven)Well done. Pnina Link to comment
