henrimanguy 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Another resubmission (with the risk to weary you). This time of a photo which was rather appreciated but for which I have received much critics and advices for improve it. That is what I have try to do. To my own judgment it seems better. Is it your opinion ? (And after that, I will finish with Venice). Link to comment
albertdarmali 1 Posted December 16, 2004 This is the kind of picture that you can just look at it for a long time. Albert. Link to comment

colin carron 58,916 Posted December 16, 2004 Henri, I have a shot from exactly the same spot, including the same vaporetto! Good PS effects and I like the colours. Link to comment
alberto.conde 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Spectacular one here, Henry. I love those colours and sky! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted December 17, 2004 Henri, you did a terrific job of transforming the original version into this classically rich image of Venice! ^_^ Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 17, 2004 Thank you all for your comments and ratings. I see that, even if it is improved, the kind of sky takes a great part in the impact of a photo if I compare the ratings of this one to those of the previous version, the sky of which is more impressive than this one. Hello Colin, I have looked for your similar shot in your portfolio but I have'nt found it. I would like that you show it (yet, a shot from the same spot is not surprising. I think there is millions shots taken from this point). Hello Alberto! Nice to hear you again, and thank you for your comment. There is something in this photo I thought there would be some questions about, but surprisingly there is no one. Even though I will answer to it. If some of you have noticed the two luminous spots in the distance on the left, these are a spotlight and a diffuser for the shooting of a film about Casanova which took place at this time. ivan_dzo 1 Posted December 18, 2004 As I was fairly harsh on the first version, best to comment on the resubmission. The sky is much more in keeping both in scale and colour temp. The overall levels are better. The composition is still nice but it's still very oversharpened. Nice shot thought, which is harder than it looks (I know, i've taken the same shot) Link to comment
klimax 0 Posted December 19, 2004 Beautiful. See JEH Turner's "The Dogana, and San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, 1834" Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted December 20, 2004 Yes, this one looks less dramatic than the previous one, but more natural overall, good job Link to comment
tanya2 0 Posted December 20, 2004 I passed from one image to other many times. It's rather hard to choose the one. They are really differents. This one is more "real". In any case - very good! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted December 27, 2004 Thank you for all your kind comments which are very invaluable to me. George, thank you for the Turner painting. I love very much the Turner's paintings. There was an exhibition of its Venice paintings when we were there but we have'nt take the time to see it and now I regret. Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted October 30, 2005 To be honest, I like your first submission better. It was a bit over done, but it certainly made it different from all the rest of the ?I stood on the bridge over the Grand Canal?. This is still above that category, but looks like an ordinary day. colin carron 58,916 Posted January 3, 2006 Henri, I've just noticed you asked to see my shot from the Accademia bridge. Here it is. You will see the weather was fine and so the sky is a rather boring plain blue. Also the Salute side of the canal is in deep shadow. Your shot is much more interesting! Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted January 3, 2006 Thank you Colin. And you know what ? You just have to change the sky, as I did! Link to comment
krzysztof_hamerla 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Very beautiful picture Henry. Cloudy sky makes this photo more natural and brings the scenery in some unbelievable movement which is present to this place over the centuries. Thanks for sharing - Krzysztof Link to comment
jeverz 0 Posted January 22, 2006 It would be nice as a Poster. Very beautiful photo with special atmosphere! Link to comment
tmjacobs 0 Posted September 3, 2006 It's a good thing you mention the added sky in the details - I see too many photos that I suspect are composites too but nothing is mentioned. I can't explain why but for me it makes a huge difference in my appreciation to know whether it was shot this way or composited afterwards. I'd rather see how it was when you were there than how it could have been. Perhaps it's not fair to write this comment about one of your photos because I see it's the only one of this kind in your portfolio. One technical note: this too (as with another photo I commented on) looks slightly oversharpened - at least on my monitor (but a monitor can't be too sharp, I guess) Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Thank you Theo. In fact, this is not the only photo where I have changed the sky. There is some others, but I have not mentionned it each time. The reason why I have changed the sky here is that the real sky was uniformly greyish and absolutely without interest. I know that it can be considered as a cheating by some but I don't find it more a cheating than to use filters on the lens for example. The "falsification" of the reality has'nt been invented by the photoshop users. It is as old as the photography.About the oversharpening, it is a problem that I have with many of my reductions for photo.net. I have long time compressed them with a big compression rate which damage very much the photo and seems to increase the sharpening. Link to comment
