ergallery 0 Posted December 15, 2004 What wonderful color! the red rain shield with the red coat and umbrella are really eye catching. did you blurr the backround? I assume that the cars were moving, but the rest of the backround is blurred as well. It really came out well, a great technique Link to comment
nicolasbryant 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Yes I did blurr a bit more the background. Thanks for the nice comment. Link to comment
boris_forever 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Wonderfull shot! I love the details in the foreground, and the juxtaposition of the apparent fast background movement and the stillness of the foreground. Something in me wishes there was no hydrant in the lower right. This shot makes me home sick for NYC. Link to comment

changpeng_zhao1 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Nice shot. I wish the newstand itself did not get blurred. I would assume that's not moving... Link to comment

lukep 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Good technique. It's so hard to pan with newsstands - they move so damn quick! ;) Link to comment
glenn mellen 0 Posted December 15, 2004 Very nice / very original. Think it would be better had the red coat and umbrella not been motion-blurred, but holding the same sharpness as shown in the foreground. Link to comment

christiankiely 0 Posted December 16, 2004 This is a fantastic idea and a great image, but I don't like the fact that it is obviously digitally altered. If you could pull this off "in camera" or with less artifact it would be tremendous. The things that jump out at me are the appearance of the newstand moving, and the fact that I can read "20 Million" for the lottery. If this were a timed exposure that would be blurred as well. Great job tho' Link to comment
seven 0 Posted December 16, 2004 The reds provide a good warm contrast with the wet and the darker zones. The high speed surrounds make the newsstand seem like a comfortable refuge from the elements. Link to comment
yongbo 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Good idea, but the NEWSSTAND should not be blurred. Link to comment
nicolasbryant 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Yes very true the newsstand shouldn't be blurred I'll be more careful next time... for ino I took this at shutter speed 1/13 I should have tried taking it even slower but this was taken very quickly since there were a lot of people walking in front of me and I didn't want to loose the moment (actually I cropped out on the right people waiting that I took the shot). Thanks for all the comments Link to comment
emilio_deltoro 0 Posted December 16, 2004 Just love this shot. It has everything you can ask in a good picture. Congrats Link to comment
igor_r 0 Posted December 16, 2004 One of the things I always look for in photos is meaning. That is the essence of a good photograph(er). Your photo is very interesting. Everything screams of fast-paced city life - news, flying cabs, even rain (life in a small town usually stops when it rains). You didn't need to blur the backgroud. Manipulation usually distracts from the point (my eye is drawn to the blur rather than taking in the image as a whole). Also, contrast between the standing "character" and people rushing by would strengthen the theme even more. Myself being a die-hard street photographer, this is a difficult shot to get right. Kudos on the excellent try. I like it. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted December 17, 2004 Nice execution in general with PS motion blur. Only the edge of the newsstand that gives it away. The 20 million lotto sign is fine as it could've been stuck with that message. Love the overall result! Link to comment
