You're lucky to have found such wonderful subjects, but 1) the depth of field has to be reduce to those birds only, seeing those leave of the background is distracting, 2) I would zoom out a bit to have the whole plate in the photo, while maintainting the birds at the right portion of the composition. Maybe your camera doesn't allow large apenture, but if you have a SLR, go for 200 at f2.8 on this one, the photo would be completely different, keep trying though. 4/4

Chekim, thanks very much for your critique. I used the widest aperture (3.5) my camera setting would allow at the semi-automatic setting for 'sports', which I used as these birds did not sit still for much more than a second or so. If I would have had all the time in the world, I might have gotten a better result. However, I was not doing a studio job. Thanks anyway. I'll keep on trying!

While this isn't a great photo, it's too bad it received 2's and 3's from some raters. I would suspect those people are either highly successful wildlife photographers or have never tried photographing birds at all. Certainly this photo could be improved by moving the subjects off-center and reducing DOF, but I wouldn't say it's below average.

Erik, what often amazes me is that many ratings, from 2 to 6, are given for one & the same photo. I guess it says more about the raters than about the photo.
