This photo was taken in ambient evening sunlight (from the

right/west along the street). It's a french balcony on the fourth

floor of an apartment downtown.

Gorgeous! I really want to see it larger! It's a little dark below the hat. I'm not saying it all has to be visible, but a bit more contrast, perhaps. Could even go with a shallower DOF, I think.

Thanks Peter...ehm, what I lack in artistic eye I compensate with poor scanning... Actually, I keep the files very small (see the rest of my photos) but promise to rescan bigger images of popular pics...

I agree with Peter. It's a great shot,but the size is too small and too much shadow under the hat. Show it bigger.

My neighbor is a collector of hats and he would be mighty pleased to own one like this. I showed him this photo the other day and his response was "one of the best damn hat pictures I've ever seen!" He's got good taste. I thought the portrait was really nice as well.

I like the pose and lighting on her face, but the contrast is to stark below the hat, making it look purposely burned to retain the "g" rating of the image.

OK, I read inspiring comments...To Doug and your neighbour I can reveal that the traffic on the street below started stopping after awhile of photographing (and no, the model did not throw her hat at the audience)...And to Thomas, yep, the sun took care of the rating...nothing shows on the 6x7 negative.
