johncrosley 0 Posted December 3, 2004 These two young, cross-racial Parisian women, demonstrate that 'race' is not necessarily a defining problem in their native Paris, despite mounting racial/ethnic tensions. Your ratings and critiques are most welcome. (If you rate harshly or very negatively, please submit a helpful and constructive comment/please share your superior photographic knowledge) Thanks! b_b21 0 Posted December 3, 2004 From the thechnical point of view, I think a shallower dof would benefit the photo a lot, the background is too busy and clutter to make the statment of the friendship stand out although it gives a reference on the socioeconomical strata of the place this image was taken. I certainly like the contrast of the two skin tones. Nicely Captured B. B. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted December 4, 2004 I found this in an old "to be uploaded . . . maybe . . . " folder and thought I'd try it out. I'm going to move it to my "Europe As I've Seen It" folder from my "Single Photo Folder", which really is where it should have been placed in the first instance. It should not really have been critiqued, but I did like the social comment, and I thought I'd share. It's hard, using 'auto everything' and not having time to pose your subjects, to set a shutter speed high enough -- say 1/2000th of a sec. to move the depth of field shallow enough to eliminate or blur the background, (and I don't play around in Photoshop). Since you obviously know my images, you know I can be 'very sophisticated' about my backgrounds and this is not indicative of what my skills best represent. I was moved by these two young women's friendship, but when I went to show them this image, they giggled, and ran awaaaaay, like schoolgirls . . . which I suppose in the first instance, they are. Friends, or more than friends, I'll never know. This photo took about 2 seconds to take, and it's just a 'slice of life' with no beginning, just this image, and no end. A question mark forever. johncrosley 0 Posted December 4, 2004 I forgot to mention. The complexion of this so-called 'Black Woman' actually is what the term 'cafe au lait' was coined to describe, isn't it? John Link to comment
