cherlyn 1 Posted November 26, 2004 The colour shot looks ordinary so I give it a sketch drawing effect. Critique, comments & ratings welcome. Thanks Link to comment
mikeseb 0 Posted November 26, 2004 I love the angles formed by railings and their reflections. Somehow, and I can't put my finger on it, the sketch-drawing effect doesn't quite work for me. I can see how this shot might have looked ordinary to you in color. What about high-contrast b&W, reduced to only the darkest and lightest tones? Keep at it, you are on to something. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted November 26, 2004 Excellent work. This image goes beyond the ordinary and becomes art. Well done and congratulations. Link to comment
jim_trombley 0 Posted November 26, 2004 An excellent example of digital alteration. Perhaps it should be displayed under that classification. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted November 26, 2004 I like the graphic nature of these lines : what software did you use to create this effect? Link to comment
irv 0 Posted November 26, 2004 I like the shot done this way a good bit. Something a bit unusual. I think it would be a much stronger photo if you cropped off the grass (or trees) in the upper section. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted November 26, 2004 Howard, thank you for your comments.Seven, I use Photoshop for the photo.Michael, I'll try your suggestion . Thks Link to comment
kiran_kumar_m 0 Posted November 27, 2004 Great improvisation ! This snap works for me ! Why are the railings extending into the water ? Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted November 27, 2004 Kiran, this is actually a reservoir. There are steps & therefore railings extended into the water. Link to comment
Bilal Zaheer 0 Posted November 30, 2004 kiran sometimes the tortoise need the railing to climb in and out of the water. Link to comment
reddoor 0 Posted December 3, 2004 Good effect and good composition. Croping the grass at the top would improve the shot. 6/6 Link to comment
andrey1 0 Posted February 6, 2005 I think it's one of the best images in your portfolio (maybe because I am fond of geometry in photos) - one coming from a different world. The grass is something that links it to the 'earth', and without it the picture would be even more surrealistic, but whether to crop it or not depends on whether you wanted to achieve that feeling of isolation. nicholasprice 0 Posted March 9, 2005 This is an exceedingly dramatic photograph, which caught my eye at once, when I was looking through your excellent portfolio. The thumbnail doesn't do it justice - I love the harsh lighting and the stark, exagerated contrast; but it is the dry humour of the title [and the tortoise] which sets this image well above the rest. I love everything about it, and see it as creative and artistic! A well deserved 7/7! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 16, 2005 I love this! Your portfolio is very beautiful, and very talented! I also like the history lessons you give with some, like the ruined cathedral. Wonderful work! Link to comment
w. roger keagle 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Minimual show us, less at times is more, this allows the mind to fill in the details, very well balanced, with power leading to the strong side...hsas good energy this work, well seen ! Link to comment
jonathancharlesphoto 0 Posted January 22, 2007 Very nicely abstracted from the original colour shot - already an interesting and strong design. I used to do this kind of thing laboriously by copying onto lith film, fogging highlights (Sabatier-effect) and re-copying. Now it is much quicker and more controlled in PS but still the question is: does it make a good picture (not just a curio)? Here it is a great success because of the good choice of subject, and a very pleasing result - congratulations. Best wishes, Jonathan Link to comment
jana 1 Posted February 21, 2007 I like this B&W a lot. Very graphical. I might consider a tiny black frame. cheers Jana Link to comment
