poutnik 1 Posted November 22, 2004 I tried BW in this landscape shot, although I prefer colors... But in this case, I think it's nice enough... Thanks for your constructive comments and ratings... Jiri Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted November 22, 2004 Jiri, very nicely ballanced composition, I like the semi circle of the field, as well as your use of B/W here. 7/7 Pnina Link to comment
sjmurray 33,387 Posted November 22, 2004 Interesting composition. I find the trees too dark, lacking in detail. Sky is way too artificially dark, IMO. Heavy handed use of GND is rampant in pnet! I call it the "sky from another planet" syndrome. Caught some nice clouds. I think the use of a red filter with black and white film would have been adaquate to darken the sky, or a polarizer with NPS. Hey, this is just my opinion. We all see things differently. :>) Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted November 22, 2004 Jiri, Your decision to desaturate was a good one in my opinion. It forces the shot to stand on it's tones, textures, and shapes only, elements in which it is rich. As already mentioned, the curving bands of cut crops leads the eye to the grove of trees on the horizon. This in turn is nicely outlined against the clouds & lighter sky area. Just enough cloud material scattered through the exaggerated dark sky to keep it from becoming tiring. To have exposed & printed for detail in the trees and a lighter sky as suggested by Steve would have produced a totally different, though probably decent, looking photo. There is probably a case to be made for each type. I happen to like your version. Steve is correct in his observations that GND filters are overdone here on PN but I think you've handled this one quite nicely in keeping it's use transparent. Had I taken this one I'd have a large print of it hanging on my wall. Since you've taken it I'll limit myself to using it as my wallpaper for a while. Thanks for the use. Best, LM. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted November 22, 2004 You were right to make a B&W. Here, the composition and dynamic lines of sky and field make the shot, real artwork ! Regards, Carsten Link to comment
poutnik 1 Posted November 23, 2004 Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. They are one of the reasons I improve (at least I think so)... And Len you're welcome to use it this way, if you want don't hesitate to email me your desktop resolution and I can send you this file in a bit higher resolution without recompression... :-) Jiri Link to comment

christos 0 Posted November 24, 2004 I haven't seen the colour version but I don't think I need.. this is a very good and fascinating work, and agree totally with Len above about its strengths in contrast, textures and shapes Link to comment
