The heavy textured (and mildily weathered) rope on the cleat is extremely nice and attractive. A classic shot, in a sense, and the angle of the light is attractive in that gives an interesting contrast between the shiny reflecting cleat and the rope itself, whose texture is further brought out. I like the toning, but I know you are really good at that.

Honestly, I cannot see the reason for (1) including the structure to the left and (2) cropping part of the loop to the right.

I'd appreciate if you could share the rationale behind it.

Cheers, s.

This is one of the rare times when power/phone lines add to the composition. I like that they are at a similar diagonal to the structure on the left. The tones textures and composition are pleasing overall. I might agree with Salvatore on the cropping of the loop on the right. As it is, it seems undecided. Perhaps cropping a bit more off would resolve that. For me it's a minor issue.

Great detail in the rope. I agree with the previous comments about the power lines as well. They fill the space well without being a distraction. Very nice image.

Salvatore, you're right to be into question the crop on the right side. I think Laurie's right when she says it's undecided (I might have said it lacked conviction or assurance. Let's just say it was a crop of convenience. It had to be cropped somewhere and this seemed like the best place. I do like the wires--I think they both help fill the frame and add some compositional complexity to the shot.

Not bad, not particularly interesting or well composed either. I expect more and better when it comes to close-ups of upfront uninteresting subjects. Your eye has to make the difference in order to go above average: here I think it doesn't. regards.
