curtis_comeau2 0 Posted November 19, 2004 The technical elements of this photo are kick ass photo. However its not really origonal. I have seen barbwire shot a tone, I think every person in a photo course has shot it, Including myself - and its always in BW. Try adding a sepia tone or a gold tone to the photo and see what it does. Black and White barbwire is just over done. C Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 19, 2004 I like this one nearly as much as the blue toned version you uploaded earlier. Compositionally, this one is cleaner but doesn't feel quite as ominous. I guess I'm in the minority...I haven't seen a lot of barbed wire photos. I'm enjoying and appreciating this series. Link to comment
cristina_fumi 0 Posted November 19, 2004 this could be used for propaganda against war, racism... It is magistrally done, congrats Link to comment
randall ellis 2 Posted November 22, 2004 Done before or not, you did a hell of a job. Great choice of camera for the subject and great composition. Personaly, I prefer B+W to color-toned images but that's just me. Very nice work! Link to comment
vuk_vuksanovic 0 Posted February 15, 2005 most of us who wander about the bad/industrial parts of town have faced simlar opportunities. i certainly have. i have also failed. very well done. vignetting is the perfect touch--in fact, it raises the pic to something quite sublime, as opposed to just very good. vuk. curtis_comeau2 0 Posted February 22, 2005 I was checking my follow ups, attached is a "barbed wire" fence shot I took years ago. The more I look at this the more i like it. Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted March 30, 2005 The pattern of the razor wire is a little too regular here, and that speaks of order and control, yet the wire is something of an evil, and presenting it more chaotic, as in the other shot, seems to work best, in my opinion. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted April 2, 2005 Arup and Doug, thanks for your comments: this is my favorite of the barbed wire series. Doug, I like your idea of this being more chaotic and that circular razor wire always looks evil to me. Link to comment
leilani1 0 Posted April 3, 2005 As I was scrolling to the bottom to comment I overlooked some of the comments and really read what Curtis had to say. Although there will always be those cliche photos it doesn't take away from it just because there is another out there. Each person percieves things differently and its about taking something common and making it your own which I feel you've done here, and in your other Barbed Wire photos. A friend photographer of mine would love this picture, he loves barbed wire photos and sees each different. I really like the angle you took this from, for some reason its very fitting to the looped barbed wire. Love how it fades into the distance. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted April 16, 2005 Leilani--thanks for your observant and intelligent comment. It's obviously very difficult to do much that's original. I try to go out and capture what I see. If I come back with something that I find visually appealing, that enough for me! Link to comment
