I agree with Sam. I would flip it clockwise myself, making the downward much stronger in my opinion. Otherwise, wonderful textures/lines. Mike

Thanks Sam, Mike and Mike. I had tried various crops and rotations. The vertical you suggested looks a bit awkward to me but perhaps that's because I can picture the boat standing on end, which doesn't seem very likely. But hey, the good thing about abstract is that you can view it whichever way you want and get out of it what you can.

Nice abstract! I like it in this presentation Hanna.

I have been giving thought to your photo safari here in Seattle and today I came across a Northwest must-shoot icon on the back of a mini-van's window. See attached photograph. :-)

Hanna, I don't like this image. I am not sure why. It is a good abstract image but I think there is something not working there. The tension between dark and clear colour parts is not well resolved. To me is a very unstable image, not well equilibred. Interesting as it is, I see it as an experiment. Just a thought, however.

Juan, thanks for being honest, and as I said, I can't even decide if I like it. I like the complementary colours and the division of space, but I agree it's lacking something. Any suggestions on how to improve it, or do I need to start again?

Do not follow any view but yours, first and only rule is that there is no rules ;-)

Abstraction is so subjective I can not pretend to change or improve your vision. To me upper right space is too empty and it allows the image to "fall" to the bottom left without any counterweight (colour, form...)on the right. But this is me and not you, obviously. Do not give any importance to my view...just have fun and keep taking abstract photos. You will develop your own instinct with practice.

I like this as is. It is prue movement over the cliff into the void...into the unknown. This image is artistic expression and should granted a special place in your portfolio. HJD

I love the lines, colors and textures, but think Juan is right and that if you crop about 20% off the bottom, you'll like the balance better.

Crop? Perhaps - but much less than 20% would more than satisfy me (like 5% at most).

At risk of sounding like an echo... Great Abstract! :-) I love the rusty, wet, saturated tones in this.

I am always drawn to these wonderful abstracts. This would look great blown up VERY LARGE on a wall....

Hey! I just noticed you are an interior designer...me too! No wonder we're attracted to this stuff....

Thanks Linda and Colin. It's surprizing how attractive a rusty old hull can be isn't it? Maybe I should go salvage one and make a coffee table base out of it, or would that be going overboard?!

. . . but you can't put a book or a cup of coffee on the reflection in the water. ;-)

Seriously, comparing the elements across the oblique line of symmetry has a lot to do with this image's appeal.

Hanna- I vote yes. I like it. However, I gotta agree with Carl, I'd crop some off the bottom just for balance.

...it's only rock and roll but I like it!" So sing The Rolling Stones. This is just to say that I like it, and if you like it, who cares?. It's not one of my favourite among your shots but it's a good abstraction. Me too, I shoot like this and I don't know how think about the final result. I undrstand that you are really intersted in PHOTOGRAPHY rather than technics supporting it. Ciao!
