Good choice for a subject. This is a very interesting piece of driftwood but the image is overexposed, removing detail - especially from the ligther portions. The hose-like (kelp?) piece at the base is also a distraction and should have been removed before taking the picture (or corrected in PS).

 

You might try using the brightness/contrast controls in PS to bring out detail. I would also look at the image desaturated.

Carl, thanks very much for your critique. My philosophy in picturing nature subjects is not to remove anything that happens to be there. Life is rather messy & not a studio. So, the 'disturbing', hose-like, piece of kelp is there where it was when I was there. The next day it might have been gone - I certainly wasn't there. As for the overexposure & saturation, I played a bit with those aspects & would like to show here a B&W rendition of this shot.
