The street is obscured and hardly notice due to the busy background elements: massive building, bridge on the right, tiles ramp (lower right) and other items.

the real point though is those two people in the street which make this work. I myself would have left it in b&w instead of using this toning

Of course: both plus their shadows are the center of the images, and all the light which shines on them - and only on them, as persons. The grain adds some 'history' which seam to fit to the persons, which are not youngsters.

And more: We have two bows, the building and the bridge, both have their own light and lines. The two people look to one of it, and the bridge has his formal line pointing to it with the wall.

And the two people divide both bows, old bridge and new building. Furthermore both bows do have a 1/3 - 2/3 ratio.
