johncrosley 0 Posted November 14, 2004 In a site where waterfall shots and running water shots have become common currency, this is highly original. It has a peacefulness and an integrity almost as an abstract all of its own. Congratulations. Regards. John Link to comment

cappoldt 0 Posted November 15, 2004 Wow, Lady, this is magnificent. Absolutely eye-catching, dreamy, and original for its genre. Well done! Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted November 15, 2004 Thankyou all so much for your response. It was the leaves here that really caught my eye. I was surprised at how steady they were despite the full flow. I was trying to portray the speed of the water as I saw it...not sure if that worked. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted November 15, 2004 Beautiful time exposure, Hanna. I especially like the water pattern and the concealled leaves. Really is terrific. ^_^ Link to comment
chouchiang 0 Posted November 16, 2004 you really have captured the flow well, and the submerged leaves just tell their own story, as steadfast a the rocks below Link to comment
cristina_fumi 0 Posted November 16, 2004 7/7 for me, really well executed and nice composition and colors Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted November 16, 2004 I like how the leaves have a kind of reflective and waxy look to them. I wonder if this kind of look could be enhanced even more. What kind of lighting did you use? Can you remember? Thanks! Dave Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted November 17, 2004 Thanks again to everyone for your interest. David, I'm not sure how to achieve the effect you mean but you're more than welcome to try it yourself, and I'd be interested to see the results. As for the lighting, I'm pretty sure it was just ambient light. I rarely use flash because I like the natural look. However, I do vaguely remember using fill flash on one or two shots on this day and it might just have been here. Sorry I'm so vague...must be the blonde in me. Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted November 17, 2004 Laughing... I was wondering about the lighting conditions i.e. was it overcast, light from the left, above, from the right, etc... When I'm shooting scenes like this sometimes the lighting direction can make a difference in the clarity/quality of being able to see through the water--something a polarizer can help, but only to a certain degree. hanna_cowpe 0 Posted November 17, 2004 Blush...well, you did say 'use'. It was a fairly bright day but the fall is facing north, so most of the glare problem was on the level water just before the drop, hence the tight crop. Link to comment
detlef 6 Posted November 17, 2004 a beautiful captured autumn scene...very well composed/ good choice of shutterspeed Link to comment
juanriera 0 Posted November 18, 2004 I like it very much. There is just too many water blurred photos that say nothing. This one is like leaves in a piece of amber. Beautiful. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted November 18, 2004 As far as I remeber from my hydrology it is the laminar water flow (seen in the bright lines in the water) which are holding the leaves in place. The opposite is turbulent flow where they would be long gone. Apart from that 'not everyone knows that' moment, this evokes a real sense of the scene. I can hear the water! Link to comment
davidroossien 0 Posted November 18, 2004 Thanks Hanna. Facing North, so no directional lighting at all, except on top. Thanks for the tip! Link to comment
