Fantastic shot! Q. Would the picture have benefitted with a "landscape" perspective ?

Bravo on a super subject. Gorgeous horse!

thanks Chris for your comment...regarding landscape crop, I think you may be right, it would have given more space and emphasized the action feeling...I will post another shot considering your suggestion...thanks

it is quite incredible, timing amazing, as is the detail. yowza. "reining" is what the sport is called over here. from the horse's perspective it pains me to see his mouth wide open like that. rider's got quite a heavy hand. but this isn't a riding lesson so i'll shut up ;-) in both your horse photos i've seen i've thought to myself they could be great advertisements for the boots ;-) must have been a heck of a day for horse pics with that sky and landscape.

many many thanks to every last comments, i really appreciate!

Karen : you are an expert! you're perfectly right, if we rate the rider on this reining contest, that would be a disaster...on a perfect slide stop, the rider shoud loose the reins and let the horse sit down on her back legs without any stress...but you know, in France we are just beginners in "reining"...even if the guy here is usually quite qualified...thanks for your nice comment!

Great shot!!! Of your three shots of this type, I like this one best! Pay attention to the horse ears - that's one of the secret to horse photography (well, at least that what my wife told me, and she is a horse person).

I am a big fan of reining events like this one, and I think that if the horse's back end was a little closer to the ground, his muscles would really stand out, and the shot would be even more interesting. The rider is a little dark. Overall good composition though.

I'm always amazed at what goes on here on PN, and today is no exception. What wonderful shots, and from France no less! Thanks for leading me to your truly great work by the nice rating on one of my pictures. Yes, I have to agree my first reaction (aside from the terrific photography) was "ouch" when seeing how the guy pulls his horses to stop,(and a shank snaffle bit has to be one of the worst inventions of mankind) rather than cueing them. And, so concerned about his hat flying off! That's really funny. But then, you've got French cuisine. Oh, just remembered, we do, too! And the Napa and Sonoma Valleys! Ha! I live in "cowboy country" (which might be called "redneck country" by some)and our local rodeos have provided some great photographic opportunities--which I haven't posted here, but am encouraged to now, sometime in the future--but the real irony is that my latest horse pictures are of some Andalusians raised right down the road, not "American" quarter horses.

Keep up the beautiful work; you have real talent.

Awesome reining shot. Great colours. Nice background. I love the man. As for the ears, I think they are perfect. They show the horse is listening to his rider and paying attention to what he is doing. Nicely done.
