sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 2, 2004 Had shot this same location several weeks earlier at Mid-day. Totally different feel to the two photos. Thought the contrast was interesting. Thoughts/ comments are appreciated. Link to comment
simanta 0 Posted November 2, 2004 The composition couldn't be better. I have a similar shot in my slides taken in Vermont this fall. Did you use a long exposure ? I guess you did, the water looks pretty smooth and pleasing. And the sky matches with the water pretty good..but isn't there a magenta/blue cast throughout the photo ? Link to comment
sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 2, 2004 Thank you for commenting. Hopefully your Vermont shot is posted, but I'll look for it later on today. Definitely there is a blue cast to this photo taken right at sun rise which is a very cold/blue light. I don't think there is much I can do about that and there could well be a magenta hue to it. Now looking at it I also see what must be sharpening artifacts on the front rock. Probably I ought to rework again, but I put this up after it produced a gorgeous 13x19 print on watercolor paper, but compression and sizing for the web has removed most of the wonder I felt for this photo. sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 4, 2004 Corrected the magenta hue here, but as I expected, I have been unable to adjust blue without throwing everything off. Link to comment
simanta 0 Posted November 5, 2004 Perfect, the blue is fine, it is giving a cool effect..which kinda suits. The magenta was looking weird, which you've fixed pretty nicely. I like the new version. Link to comment
bram meijer 0 Posted November 6, 2004 The corrected photo is much better. What did you do with the rock in the front? It seems it has a small halo around it. Bram Link to comment
sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 7, 2004 Hi Bram thanks for looking. The halo on the rock is possibly the result of applying too much blur when I blended two photos. One exposed for the sky and one exposed for the river. This is the resukt of my first try at blending and I'm reasonably happy with the result. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted November 9, 2004 It looks like an oil painting to me. I find it appealing, even with the magenta cast. Link to comment
sunapeephoto 0 Posted November 9, 2004 Thanks Kim, I appreciate the visit and comment. I am definitely having a few color management issues mostly in preparing pictures for the web. Seems like when I use the "save for web" function, the first thing the compression tosses out is color information. Unless I shoot in JPG on my camera, then it seems okay. It'll take a while, but I will figure it out. Or I'll learn to like magenta. :) Link to comment
