this is an excellent shot, but did you blue up the sky from the horizon ? It looks kinda odd there, - also, I would have concentrated more onto the foreground and not much into the sky.. the sky is nice blue, but very less variation, but there are so many objects in the foreground which could be brought out with more details.

Lou Ann- I like the expanse of this, but if it were mine I would crop it into a panoramic view to decrease the attention the blank sky is getting and accentuate the grass and bales more. I also think it has a green cast to it, so I would adjust that. I am attaching my suggestions. Hope you don't mind.

No, of course I don't mind, Jayme! I like your ideas. It was difficult to do any shooting out there without getting a LOT of sky because there really wasn't much else, especially when you weren't facing the mountains.

And, no, Simanta, I didn't do anything different to the sky ... the polarizing filter deepened the color, but the sky was just paler around the tops of the mountains in the distance.

I like your use of the pattern of the bales. I find I don't usually need to use a polariser with Velvia as it produces saturated sky colours all by itself!

Nice simple subject matter. I think I prefer Jayme's crop with less sky and more foreground and midground subject matter. But still, good work!

Lou Ann, I like the way you've captured the feeling of wide open space by using a lot of sky in the image. Very nice prespective. I also like the gradient in the blue sky.

Very nice landscape, I like the perspective, adds a feel of vastness. And nice effect of the strong blue with the green. The only thing I could nit-pick is the horizon tilt, could be fixed easily. Regards, Carsten

I wish the power lines weren't in this shot, but I know how hard it is to get shots like this with NO power poles. Could you have changed your position at all, say perhaps more to the right to be rid of them? I do like Jayme's version and think it serves to give more impact to this composition.

You're right about the power lines. And I tried to clone them out, but because they continue on toward the "infinity" perspective, it was almost impossible to do. And, had I shifted the camera any more to the right, I would have had the road in the way. :-(

Lou Ann, I've tried to clone out power lines, too - almost impossible. That's why I was wondering if you could change position, but you were hampered on all sides, it sounds like!

Nice color, Lou Ann. I also like Jayme's rendition as well. Tough lighting to work with, but you made the most of it.

I think that you photo would have a better impact if you where closer to the haystacks, with one in the foreground. Especialy because the landscape around is not very interesting, nor the sky.

Interesting country, Lou Ann. Thanks for sharing it with us. I rather like the blue, but I especially like that green field with the hay bales. I'm not sure what I would do to it, except straighten it a bit. I really like the sense of open space out west, and it is almost impossible to capture that in a photo.
