2004-10-27 total phase of the lunar eclipse.

gaetanchevalier

Shot taken at 23:06 Eastern Daylight Time (3:06 U.T.) only 2 minutes after mid eclipse. Please view in the larger format.Expsure time: 2 seconds; F-number: 6.3; ISO: 200. This is quite difficult to take a photo of total lunar eclipse because the brightness of the fully eclipsed Moon is too unpredictable. My goal was to record much details as possible, so my decision to go to a 2 seconds photo.

This shot was taken from my backyard, so it was easy to be quick to upload it to PhotoNet. It is my first attempt to a lunar eclipse. The second time I will choose a 400 or 800 ISO at 1 second of faster shot. This shot was taken from a suburb of Quebec city with a lot of light pollution.

I was wondering if I would find some nice picture of the eclipse on PhotoNet this morning.

Here in Italy the eclpipse was in the middle of the night (4 AM), so I missed it.

We're lucky our good fellow Gaetan has done the GOOOOOOD JOB and shares his shot.

It's a very nice picture !

Fine shot, Gaetan! I will have to try a bit of lunar photography myself some day. The eclipse colour is good and I see the weather stayed fine for you. (All the recent lunar eclipses in UK have been bombed out by the weather.)

Thanks for sharing this shot, Gaetan. I was busy trying to get my boys to bed during the peak of this eclipse and missed it. Could I talk you into posting or e-mailing me a larger version?

Yes, nice color. Your idea of higher ISO and 1-second exposure is good, because the earth is spinning, so the moon might come out less blurred with a shorter exposure.

Very nice capture, Gaetan. I took a similar shot in Houston using a 2 second exposure at this stage. It was a little fuzzy on the edges.

Yes Steve I'll be happy that you can talk to me on my posting. I can e-mail you the original of this shot, but I can not sent you a larger version because what you see is a 100% crop. I was photographying the moon with my 200mm zoom, so without cropping at 100% the moon would have been much smaller. Hope to hear from you and thanks for your comments.

Perhaps your photo is a little fuzzy on the edges because I think that 2 seconds shot are to slow speed to take shot at the moon. I was able to take my shot in the auto-focus mode of my camera. Thanks for your comments.

Unfortunatly it was a cloudy night in Holland, so I have to enjoy the eclips from your photo.

Well done.

I had have the hope to see the eclips with my own eyes but I've missed it. Now I can still enjoy it. You've made a very good picture of it. The moon has exactly the brown/orange colour as the last time I saw this spectacle by myself. Great shot! Best Regards, Ada.

La lentille utilisee est une Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM. Tres bonne lentille mais ce n'est tout de meme qu'une 200mm pour photographier la lune. Mais je suis content du resultat.
