This is a portrait I've made this summer of my granddaughter Flore.

Since a short time she is a member of PN too. I hope you like her and

you like this portrait too. I appreciate your comments and ratings.

Nice multicoloured eyes! And the overall colours of the photo are very pleasing.

Perhaps using a longer lens will avoid the distortion of the form of the face and nose (it looks as if the photo was taken from a very short range, am I right?)

Yes, you are right. I have a very simple digital camera, so I didn't have the possibility to use a longer lens. But somebody gave me the advice to take the shot from a distance of about 1 meter and use my zoomer. I will try it out. I thank you very much for your kind words and advice! Best Regards, Ada.

Very nice lighting and composition in this image.

I like the amount of detail, particularly in the eyes.

Nicely done.

Hi ADA I love the pose and close up of the young lady. I have also to say she has the most amazing eyes the colour just draws you in well done ADA. My advise and it is only advise if it ant broken don't fix it if you are happy with the camera then I do not see any advantage at this point to buy a new one.

Very nice picture of Flore, it's very pure.

The close-up, you can twist about it, but is not always wrong IMO.

She comes very close to the viewer on this way.

I realy like the way you did.

And the colours are fantastic!!!!

Wim.

I like it very much you all appreciate this portrait of Flore. Some other people speak about the refashioning by using a wrong lens or that perhaps the shot was taken from a very little distance. It's true, I took this shot from nearby. But knowing the shape of my granddaughters face the transformation is not so spectactulair as it looks like. I think, Wim, you as her uncle, knows what I mean. (And don't forget the difference in reproduction among the diverse computerscreens). But in the future I can anticipate this negative effect by take my shots from her from out a different point of view. Never too old to learn! Best Regards all of you and thanks again, Ada.

Ada,

This portrait really captures the sparkle of youth...the light, saturation and slight lens distortion all work well here. Great job!

The lens of the cybershot you have should be enough, go to the maximum tele setting. I go to the maximum some times when I photograph a friend that I have with a big nose. But either way, I like a lot your portfolio (I just took a look)

Hi Ada - I'm always one to like things a little different and to me the "distortion" of the face makes the shot! I like it, but that's just me. You might try to recreate a winter version of the shot from 1 meter and zooming and see which one YOU like better... because that is what really counts!

Hi Ada, the only thing that counts is what gives you the best photo, and I think you did in this way. A tele certainly would have produced a different photo , but I am not convinced it would be the better photo. Pose, reflection and excellent sparkling eyes looking you straight in the eyes are very good. the nitpicking I have is more cauesed by the aqua coloured string of her shirt, wich kind of competes for attention with the eyes.

The clarity, the eyes , the skin tones the light the smile are superb capture Ada, I still think that one step backward would have improved the angle. But it is me... Pnina

I appreciate it very much that all of you took time to look at this portrait I made. I realise that each opinion is based on cases as experience, knowledge and taste. As you said; I make the picture at the way I like it. And I like this shot of my granddaughter because it's real Flore. This is how she looks and laughs. So...

I love the eyes....the eyes are the soul and sparkle of the person... nice tilt and expression!

technically try this next time:

keep the eyes in the upper third part of the image...

unless done for an effect

use a longer lens ( 100 - 150 ) for close up portraits like this so the perspective of the face is more realistic ( wider lenses will emphasise size of the closeset object....usually the nose)

Thank you for your kind words and advise. The problem with my camera is, I could not put a longer lens on it. So maybe there is an other way to become a better result. I appreciate to hear that from you. Best Regards, Ada.
