I took this shot at 1am, local time, in Krossfjorden, a fjord in

Spitzberg island, a mere thousand kilometers from the North Pole. At

these latitudes, in summer, the sun never goes below the horizon, and

a copper glow reflects off the mountains in the golden light of the

midnight sun.

I was just walking out of the cabin and on the deck of our moored

sailboat after dinner, for some mundane chore, and I saw this floating

iceberg with those three resting birds. It was a zen moment, so to

say, I grabbed my camera and shot without thinking too much,

completely absorbed by the view.

Do you like this shot? Is it too symmetric? Should it be less

centered? And what about the colours? Comments very much appreciated.

Maybe I would have cropped just below the top most part of the black of the shadow (bottom left) but that is just my personal taste. I find in general the whole isue of the symmetric placement not a bad point. The highlights on the left look balanced by the shadows on the right, making a pleasent efect. About the colors, they are just right.

Overall great picture.

It looks like a great moment in time and i can understand the zen feeling. But there somthing that bothers me, could be the colours, it might be because i have not seen what its like over there at 1am and therefore cant imagine what colours should be correct. I also think BB segestion of a lower crop would be good, just to knock it off center and to remove the dark patch.

Very nice.

This is a very cool shot. As far as symmetry goes, i think it works for this shot. But i would actually take off from the bottom and top. Something like this... I didn't spend much time, but this is roughly what I had in mind. I give this a 6/6

Think I'm agreeing with Anish's crop. The panaramic format suits the centered nature of the photo, and prhehaps increases the psychological distance between the pair and the single bird. I might make the crop even narrower, actually.
