FOG

Used Lightning Effects in PS to achieve the effect my coral filter would give. I feel this come close, except for the lit up trees.

Atle, it is very interesting to see you use PS to generate the filter effect. The software can do lots thing today. For example Nikon scan software, it has function similar to GND filer. I am not familiar with new features of PS7, so is it Lightning Effects new feature? U did great regarding to the PS work since without your mensioning it, I would think it was straight from slide.

I like this photo and I love the mood you create here. The lighting is sweet and the mist is cool. My only nit would be that I wish the fg trees a little smaller.

Thanks for your input Kurt. The lightning effects is in PS 5.0 LE, and probably later versions too?. I used it in Omni Mode created a big circle and found the colors tone that i felt macthed the real filter. It pretty much do the same as the real filter, adds color (quite a lot when there is the right light) when they are not present or faded away.... (i will upload the original for comparison.) and as in this shot, take a way the cold velvia tone, and perhaps getting closer in tone to the scenery like it was there and then... except for the sky..! But personally i prefer to use the real filter... it kinda gives a better feeling when the results are pleasing, but on certain shot, when discarding the option to use the filter, and regretting that afterwards, its nice to have this possibility.

They both have their strong points, but I love the cool, serene feeling of the original one. I almost expect the photo to feel cool if I touch it. The 'Fog' picture, while still very pretty, doesn't evoke the same response in me.

Quite frankly my preference is for the original. The Velvia tones, in this case, appears to me "more natural." The filtered photo just has something about it that looks manipulated... even tho' you say it's closer to the real-life subject. I haven't rated either... didn't see the original come across for review. But, had I rated it, the original would've engendered 1-point more for aesthetics. Both renditions are excellent tho'.
