Citrus Still

tom grubbe

Have you ever bought produce just to photograph it? I don't really like lemons or limes but wanted to try some stills with this kind of subject. The lighting is two very hot 500 watt Smith Victor lamps (3200k) outside a homemade EZCube. It still looks a little warm even though my white balance is set to incandescent light. I need help with this for sure so please, any advice/critiques are welcome (especially with regard to white balance).

Very good, I like it a lot. In my opinion, the flower detracts. It doesn't fit with the theme or the colors. You might also want to try to not cut off the bowl on the left. Despite that, I really do like it.

In "details" you expressed concern for white balance, and it looks good to me.

I would like to see comments from lighting experts as to how to achieve a little more detail in cut face of the lemon. I suspect addition of a small hard light at an angle to the face to give texture and possibly specular highlights, but that would introduce unwanted hard shadows, no?

Not to denigrate your good photo, but will be watching to see if anybody chips in with followup.
