robert geurts 0 Posted October 18, 2004 Rearly nice colors. But a little harsh light (flash I think). Link to comment
d2f 0 Posted October 18, 2004 overexposure is not acceptable these days of auto everything cameras, that and the dead center subject placement, takes this image down a couple of notches Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted October 18, 2004 Don thinks he knows everything about photography and art. What is your opinion. Is the image over exposed? Is the composition really bad? Yes, I used a flash. This is candid photography at an indoor craft show with really bad lighting. Come on folks, is Don on traget or is he wrong this time? Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted October 18, 2004 Does this work better? Less exposure, and she is not in the center. Which tells the better story? Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted October 18, 2004 Howard, it looks to me like you have several lines pointing to the woman: the line caused by the ties on the sweaters on the left, the left side of the sweater above, and the line created by overlap of the sweaters to the right. I disagree with Don on your placement of the woman in this shot, and cropping it reduces the impact. She doesn't appear to enjoy candids as much as you do, though. Nice work. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted October 19, 2004 Howard- The extreme clarity of the woman in contrast to the slightly out of focus foreground and backround and the vibrant contrasting colors, make this image jump out and say "Hey! look at me" The composition, while not conventional, almost abstract in nature, makes the lady even more the center of attention here. I personally like the compostion, it's very creative and interesting, not boring. My only complaint, is I would adjust the curves down just a tad to give her skin tones just a little more color, but that's just my opinion, I like nice pink skin tones, these are rather olive tones. Did you check out how thi s looks in B&W in the red cahnnel, really exceptional! So, no I don't agree with Don, I think it's creatively done, you took something that could have been ordinary and make it out of the ordinary! Nice job! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted October 19, 2004 Howard, I think this is an interesting shot. A combination of candid and environmental portrait. With her poking out from her merchandise, gives depth. Colorful and lively surroundings, certainly is not boring. The revised crop was good, but I think the population of "hang tags" in original version, although too hot and distracting, do give depth perception, and leaving just the tags below her face might not be best decision. I'd say leave most elements as they are, and just crop off top (recognizable still as sweater.) Optional would be to blur things out to emphasize her, and desaturate a little for her skin tone sake, but these 2 steps are just personal, and most might disagree. I attached what I had in mind. Certainly a successful environmental portraiture, Howard. ^_^ Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted October 20, 2004 I like the original, as posted. It's the expression on her face that's doing it for me. Her hair kind of matches the sweaters, too. I like the colors and textures - everything comes together in this. Center placement doesn't bother me at all - rules are made to be broken and this works for me. Link to comment
david_solomon 0 Posted October 20, 2004 Like it, leave it, enjoy it as it is. Well done, out of the ordinary. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted October 20, 2004 I also like the original, as posted. The textures in the sweaters doesn't detract from the woman. Her eyes and her hands are what truly draw my eye. Glad you SAW this one. Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted October 21, 2004 Count me in on liking the original crop the best. Do agree with Jayme about her skin tones being a little pinker. Funny how one's original crop is more often than not the one to go with! This is very colorful and interesting. Link to comment
