mgbeach 0 Posted October 15, 2004 that is freakin awesome! My favorite in a while. Well done. Link to comment
kyang 0 Posted October 15, 2004 Eric, the lighting and the color are super. However, I am wondering whether it need strong main object. The cloud and the texture of the ground are really good element. I don't know where my eyes are to focus. Still a great landscape work. Link to comment
eric_fredine 0 Posted October 15, 2004 Thanks folks. Irsan - This is a large dry slough (Bittern Lake) near the city of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. Mark - yeah, it happens once in a while... Kurt - I'd agree this is a bit compositionally empty. It was the best I could manage to find at the time. I felt compelled to make a photograph given the rather exceptional light. FWIW I consider this photograph to be significantly inferior to my previous post... Cheers,Eric Link to comment
forrest_andrew 0 Posted October 15, 2004 you said it yourself - great lighting. might i add quite unique as well. though there is perhaps not as much of an intricate link between foreground and background as some of your other work the surreal glow does have appeal. i'd be interested to see any vertical format images with the same lighting. henrimanguy 0 Posted October 15, 2004 What a light! I was not very fan of desert photos, but it was before to see yours. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted October 15, 2004 You say inferior to you're last post, and look at the ratings! Got to laugh, eh? People go gaga over a little colour... as has been said, no real connection between land and sky, but it does look flipp'en gorgeous in itself, and the depression- a giant's footprint, I can imagine a few of those strolling around here. Guess I'm not immune to a little colour, either... Link to comment
ellie designs 0 Posted October 15, 2004 The other one is very good. I prefer this one because of the implied expanding horizon/space. I think maybe the foreground detail works a little better in the other ,but the vertical format in that one isn't as appealing for me. Link to comment
schneekranich 0 Posted October 15, 2004 supernatural! There is enough to look at for me, the texture, the "foot-print", the orange on the left in the sky and on the right on the ground. To everyone not seeing a subject here: take some time... Link to comment
richard thompson www.fotoz 0 Posted October 15, 2004 Looks unreal, but it's such a good photo, you can tell it is. I need to visit these dry lakes. Link to comment
buckry 0 Posted October 15, 2004 I like it a lot. I agree it's a bit empty, but still very good. Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted October 15, 2004 The bits of glow on the dried mud make for little echoes of the picture as a whole. Very cool effect. And I think the large irregularities in the mud (the "footprints") make for a surprisingly strong subject. I keep looking and looking at this one. Link to comment
taner 3 Posted October 15, 2004 You clearly are a master of this 'jenre'... But I refuse to stray away from the DOGMA: where is your foreground interest?!!! (With that light, and with the possibilities of digital manipulation, even your shoes would have looked fantastic. Cheers my fellow Canadian. Link to comment
taner 3 Posted October 15, 2004 On a completely different note, the color palette here reminds me of Fuji's low contrast pro-films. While playing with your color palette, do you try to emulate a particular film's palette, or am I reading way too much into things here? Link to comment
eric_fredine 0 Posted October 16, 2004 Thanks again. A. Taner: I guess the cracks will have to do as the foreground interest :). And I really just work on an image until it 'looks right' to me - I don't no much of anything about film palettes. Cheers, Eric Link to comment
johne37179 29 Posted October 16, 2004 Eric, isn't it amazing how nothing can sometimes be the best subject. This is delightfully sureal. Great eye! Link to comment
Tuhin 2 Posted October 16, 2004 superb colour , lighting and the texture of the ground but I would agree with Kurt that it looks bit empty , great capture though , well done .. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 16, 2004 Excellent lansdscape, almost surreal. Great texture and color contrast, superb detail as always. I wonder if a square format would work here. If I had the opportunity I would make two landscape shots here and stitch them together vertically - just an idea. Regards, Carsten Link to comment
