Imaginative series, and I like this the best of the lot.

I guess you were not around for the protests of the sixties, but this flag image would have been incendiary.

I'm actually surprised that no one wagged a finger at me, for these shots. I actually don't mind if these are perceived as "anti-american". I'm sure that I am on several of John Ashcroft's lists. For me, doing this series is helping me to work out the feelings I have of betrayal, powerlessness, vulnerability and utter sadness.

This is nicely done. I like it a lot, mainly because of the aesthetic quality of it. It is very graphic and the desaturated colors works wonderful.

...is a very good idea, tiffany.

i have a lot to say, but please take what follows from this positive point of view.

first, i think you should lower the white point quite a bit to get more dynamics.

the colors won't change and the white skin will have a more agressive touch.

second, i'm not sure about the texture of the flag.

seems too soft to me.

either it's the flag itself that's too soft (is it made of silk, satin ?) either it's because of the dof.

anyway, the flag does not "scream" as it should.

it is really obvious on the right of the pic where the soft folds are dramatically reducing the impact of the hole.

third, the top right black area, the bottom right undefined area, and the blurred area left to the foot are places where the eye is lost, once again reducing the impact of the pic.

due to obvious reasons, the attached file is very poor in quality and aesthetics.

only there to compensate for my poor english and make you see what i mean possibly better.

I always appreciate the input. I like the way that you accented the rip. How did you do that?

I am going back and forth between the 2 images and I think I prefer the softness. I want the flag to be dirty and vulnerable...like the foot (dirty, but manicured). I am not sure about the cropping. I will ponder. In the meantime, another one is brewing in my head.

...agree with you on the softness of the flag.

if the flag is soft, vulnerable, why bother treading it ?

if it's soft and vulnerable, then why was it so hard to defeat that you lost two fingertoes in the battle ?

this is attila vs. the roman empire.

and the roman empire was far from being soft.

would you say america is soft ?

That's funny...main/hand/man...I guess the literal translation wouldn't make sense. But we Americans freely trash the english language. And a fellow American would understand the meaning of manicured feet.

I havent read the entire thread, wanted to be fresh minded to comment. Very strong. I like the muted colors against the dirt and the foot. The shredded part and it being balled up.

Is the female foot a metaphor or just what you had handy at the time. Of course, I think it makes a extra special part of the shot.

I love an image with a message...whether one agrees or not, it can stimulate discussion. The fact that it is extreamely well executed makes it all the more powerful...impactful. Excellent work.

Thank you for all the positive feedback. It makes me feel safe.

Knicki, I'm guessing that our experiences are similar, in regards to executing a mental image. I may have certain ideas that I want to get across, but as soon as I become rigid in my thinking, the image fails. In this case, I stayed out of the way and let it happen. The female foot with curled toes really worked for me, because of what I feel is threatened right now. Whether it is a woman's right to choose, lady liberty or mother earth....I feel it is all female. I even feel that the flag is female. As Behel pointed out...the softness of the flag. I feel that the flag has been handled with barbaric hands. And as I have said before, this series is not intended as anti- American. It has to do with my feelings of sadness, betrayal, powerlessness and vulnerability.

You are my kind of gal Tiffany,I love this whole series, funny though that you do not get more nastiness from doing these.Whenever I have put anything anti-american on I get so many nasty emails. You should do more especially now with all the tea parties and town meetings.....Cheers from OZ

Thanks Birte. Yes, I think that if I posted this stuff now, I would get more attention. It's really gotten nuts. I just read an article about a census worker found hanged in Kentucky with the words "Fed" written on his chest. My art hasn't been terribly political lately, but believe me, when I feel the need...I will share!
