salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 4, 2004 Prins Karl Forland is the Westmost island of the Spitzberg arcipaelagus. During our sailing and mountaneering expedition we climbed over one of its peaks, which -if ever visited- must not have been touched for many years. In the glorious midnight sun, we started walking at sunset and continued into sunrise, with a red light all over us, over the rock faces, and the last valleys before the sea nothingness extending to Greenland to the West and the North Pole to the North. Does the picture convey the magic of the man (actually woman) in this untouched wilderness? Suggestion and comments are most welcome. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 5, 2004 As you know by now, I'm not keen on heavy black borders, but that's a matter of individual taste. Anyway, I applied changes in PS-cs shadow/highlight adjustment as a blend layer to recover shadow and midtone details... Link to comment
chris pastella 0 Posted October 5, 2004 Great. I was also told the frame shouldn't be larger than the subject - i.e. your friend/girlfriend/wife (I hope this time all possibilities have been encompassed :-) - so I agree with Gary. Anyway, this is an impressive picture and every rule has its exceptions. Always nice to see your postings. cheers ! Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted October 5, 2004 Gary, I appreciate your time and I think your PS'ed version is far superior to mine. Now, if I only knew what are these layers.... (not kidding, I never went past histogram midpoints and extremes, rotating horizons prone to sea-sickness and cropping to correct my shortcomings in the field, three functions I find intuitive). Chris, this time you were helped since I mentioned the gender. Or do you recognise the jacket by now? Did you appreciate it's the first picture I have with the climber staring in camera? I always avoid it, to give the viewer-observing-man-in-the-wilderness-observing-wilderness-as-well feeling, but this time I liked the fact that the skin was also merging with it all. Link to comment
daniel_man 0 Posted October 6, 2004 Yeah, right, our photos do look similar. My pic. The rocks, the composition, the subject :)You had beautiful light and the winding clouds on the left resemble the shape of the rock and the lines of the mountains.Good work. Link to comment
