It was a sunny day so the natural light was harsh. Exposure-wise,

I'm quite happy that I managed to open up shadows by using a semi-

translucent light diffuser as a reflector to bounce some light back

on my model (operating it with one hand and the camera with the other

was quite tricky ;)

Hmmm, those burned out highlights spoil the portrait for me. Try adding a gaussian blur layer and reducing the opacity until the hot spots become more diffused and luminous. I find this often an effective way to disguise hot spots.
