salvatore.mele 1 Posted September 21, 2004 Although the title does give it away, a good abstract -to me- should be indeed abstract, with little reference to the original object. Does it work in this sense? Any comment on the composition and the light is much appreciated, for this possible start of a series of pictures... Link to comment
f1-fanatic 0 Posted September 22, 2004 I like it.. but being a sailor, I knew what it was from the thumbnail so it wasn't as abstract to my eye as it might to someone who either has not or does not sail. Constructively I think it would have been better if the sun wasn't in the frame, to me that's what gave it away in the first place and really draws my eye from moving around the entirety of your photo. I do however really like the idea and crop but would have preferred not to see the sun through the chute as it detracts from the overall appeal. This is just my opinion for whatever it?s worth. 5/7 Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted September 22, 2004 NIce geometric reality abstract. Only wish there was just a little more contrast. Link to comment
artemisia 0 Posted September 23, 2004 Beautiful, I really like this one, could even imagine hanging it chez-moi somewhere, it's clearly moving!thanks Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted September 23, 2004 Thanks to all of you for your appreciation of this abstract. I will follow it up with other images into a series.@Norman I might agree for the sun... stay tuned as I will be posting other without it. As a sailor, at any rate, I am horrified by the different tension in the gray and white fabrics !@Roberta If you really want to hang it chez-toi, it could be arranged... :) Link to comment
f1-fanatic 0 Posted September 23, 2004 Walk.. No, run to the sail loft that made the sail for you and glue the picture to their foreheads. :) I have some older shots of my old spinnaker when I was racing down in Florida... Man, I miss the ocean. -NP Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted September 23, 2004 Norman, you should have seen the other part of this 100 square meters sail, the one which burst in a broach, around latitude 70N, and was glued back together with quite some imagination... By the way, speaking of racing, this picture was taken at 80N... where your first concern is not to round orange buoys as close as possible, but rather blue icebergs as far as possible. f1-fanatic 0 Posted September 24, 2004 That's some scary sailing. I am a fair-weather sailor having done most of my sailing/racing in the southern US as well as the Bahamas. Icebergs!!!!!! That's where I draw the line man.. :) Link to comment
