jmoody 0 Posted September 28, 2004 I'm not sure what to think of this one. Part of me likes it a lot, and part of me hates the fact that one of the leaves is out of focus. Is there any way to change that so it's not so obvious (unsharp mask etc..), or is it ok the way it is? Thanks Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 29, 2004 What about just selecting the leaf in the front, unsharp mask and follow it up with another sharpen filter for the whole image. Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted September 29, 2004 the photoshop gods have smiled on you! Thanks for taking the time with it, that's just what I had in mind, but now I'm not sure if that leaves (pun intended) it too flat, or if I want a little blur & dof to give it depth. decisions decisions Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 29, 2004 Jeff, I think that anyone who has a true appreciation of this type of photography will be comfortable with shallow dof and your original image is actually quite OK by me. Thanks for your comments! The USM parameters that I used on the leaf up front was 300%, by 0.3 pixels, by 0 Threshold. Link to comment
hayward 0 Posted September 30, 2004 Excellent, but I find myslef looking for an insect (or somthing) in the leaves. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 4, 2004 I like the picture, and I'm taken with the texture, like the skin of a lizard or something. Has an alien sort of feeling.. the leaves and shadeows form a nice composition that sustains my interest in spite of it being completely monochrome. Did you do any dodging and burning, or is this just the way the light was? Either way, it's effective. Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted October 4, 2004 honest, no changes in cropping, lighting, color...nothing. I took about 3 others with (what I thought would be) better composition, but none of them had enough lighting to be salvaged, so...this is it. I'm glad you like it. You really hit the nail on the head when you mentioned "skin". Kind of a jurasic park-looking thing now that I think about it. Thanks for the comments! Link to comment
pjduncan 0 Posted December 2, 2005 I like this a lot. I know these leaves... in golden Gate, right? I've tried to shoot them before... and got nothing near this good. The lighting is great. As for the front leaf, I think I'd like something between your original and the one posted by Fyona. If it were me I'd go in and do a bit of surgery in photoshop to get rid of the white thing in the upper left quadrant. Probably time consumming, however. Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted December 2, 2005 Yup, right near where the cactus (cacti?) are. I've tried to repeat this shot as well & haven't even gotten close. Oh well. As for the little staple-looking thing on the first leaf, this was my first "plant" shoot & I ended up deleting so many shots due to stray debris etc... I don't know if I could photoshop this one well enough, but I "have" since learned to be a little more careful with the viewfinder (though don't always succeed). Thanks for the input! p.s., Berkeley has a pretty good arboretum too (right near U.C.). They charge entrance, but not much ($5?) Link to comment
