Oh, thats easy - let me simply quote my comment given to your portfolio:- Let me praise especially your natural, convincing photos of the children. There is no speculating for a - apparently existing - child bonus, no "being overwhelmed by the singularity of the descendants". - RE

What a beautiful little girl. The highlights in her hair are spectacular. My only suggestion is to lighten the dark areas under her eyes and add a little highlight color in her eyes. I love the strand of hair across her face. What a cutie!

What a gorgeous little girl!! Love the expression on her face, too ... looks like she just turned her head, caught the camera, and thought, "here we go again!" :-) The golden tones work GREAT here ... as does the light from the side.

I've come back to this image a couple of times because I find the basic image pretty good. The trouble I have is that the processing or rendering is really not so good. A lot of detail was lost. The large dark marks under her eyes resulting from the processing make the girl look like she's ill. My recommendation on this type of image is to not do what was done, here, or use some care in the processing. I have the distinct feeling that the original exposure is pretty good and should be posted as well for comparison. I bet when this girl is older she will prefer the COLOR image over this splotchy rendering...

I agree about the shadows under the eyes. Here is the original color version. When posted the ratings were terrible. So I tried the Sepia version.

UNFORTUNATELY, currently on photo.net we have many folks who feel that turning these images into pseudoart exposures is an "artful" thing, which causes photographers to withdraw their images and then manipulate them to their detriment. I'm not saying this to be mean or critical here as some have noted in my postings. What I'm after here is resisting the peer pressure of mediocrity. Getting poor ratings right now means nothing. If you enjoyed the original color image, that's what counted. I happen to like the basic color image as I assumed it would nice and it doensn't have to be a photographic masterpiece....I am NOT a photographic expert of any kind...but find that manipulation of images has to be approached with caution and a grain (Ok, more than a grain) of enjoyment.

I like the golden girl image myself. If PS helps improve a shot, then go for it. If you do it for the crowd, yet you prefer the color version yourself, then that's not the right reason. I have many a photo I really like, yet it doesn't do well on PN. Oh well...I print it out and hang it on my wall.

Howard, I came back to this and, for the record, I still feel this is better than the color version. May be make small prints of both versions and compare side by side. When she grows up, she then can decide for herself. ^_^

Very nice portrait! BTW, I don't like the original. Photography is actually a distortion of reality so feel free to use manipulation and MAKE the image. Regards!
