Hanna, those flowers are really incredible, and the whole scene is just about perfect. (I could do without the building.)

How you do like the Digital Rebel? Phil Askey's review at dpreview.com was very favorable, and the images shown there are really crisp.

I would be very, very tempted to clone out the building. I like the way the flowers naturally lead your eyes up and around the point.

Thanks to all of you for your response. I can understand how the building would be a distraction for some. But for me it's part of the landscape that I know. Victoria is situated at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, with the city centre located just a half mile from this coast. This stretch is the core of outdoor activity and residential life. My intention here was to show what lies on our doorstep and how even with the stresses of city life, the beauty of the outdoors provides an escape - mentally, if not physically.

This is indeed a special place, Hanna. It is incredible that a place like this could be so close to a major urban center.

Even so, I remember walking up Roan Mountain on the NC-Tenn border back in 1989, not having walked that trail (which used to be part of the Appalachian Trail) since 1969. There way off in the distance was a hotel on top of the bald ridges where once there was virtual wilderness, and I knew then why the Appalachian Trail had been rerouted: $$$. The best single part of the trail in the South was no more. Even more, on the SC coast, there is almost no place left where the developers have not destroyed the natural beauty.

You are very lucky to have this much beauty on your doorstep. I hope that it stays this way.

While I agree that the building doesn't help the composition much it does add a visual jolt to the photo which makes one stop and look. I hesitate to disagree with Kim but I would leave it where it is.

The flowers, the colors, and the sweep of the land make this photo work. I'm still undecided about the building. A beautiful setting.

Yup, you take a pretty scene like this and its not good enough to stop and enjoy...they gotta build a dam condo on it so they can dine in comfort and look at it. Or is this a condo landfill site?

Thanks all for viewing what I get to look at as a matter of course. Fortunately this is public parkland and will never be built on. The building, which is more inland than it appears, is an apartment block built in the 60's and actually quite aesthetic by modern standards. One of these days I'll post a few photos of the really ugly ones.
