Comments appreciated on firey abstract rose--I thought this captured

the feel of the rose.

This is really unusual. I like it. Again, it looks like a great idea for a wall design in a room or lobby.

I need to go to design school and be done with it. :)

TC, Pedro, and Roberta--thanks for your nice comments. Obviously, several raters don't care for this style of shot, but I was quite happy with it. I thought it turned out better than I expected.

TC, there's several good books on basic design out there. I bought one they were using at PSU in their basic design class. While much of it is pretty intuitive, it was useful--I tried shooting photos that illustrated the ideas in most of the chapters. For an easier read and more photographically based approach, Bryan Peterson's Learning to See Creatively: Design, Color & Composition in Photography is a solid book on designing photos. His photos are sometimes cheesy/very commercial, but he writes clearly and examples illustrate his points well.
