I really like the image of the little girl, I love her body language. I'm less enthused about removing her from her environment - she has no context. I'm sure some like the effect, unfortunately, I can't say I do.

for me there is no need of a ball or something else. What the pictures make outstanding is the fact that they "generalize", that you exempt the gesture from this special person. RE

...yes, she was looking for me! Howard, thanks for the dedication. I agree that this particular version does not need a ball or an environment to put things in context as the complete body and her gesture are more than enough to carry the image. However, I think that it will be very cool if you were to add more empty space to the right and make this a horizontal format (I kid you not.) The shadow does give a 3 dimensional effect, IMHO. Highkey Howard strikes again! ^_^

I totally agree with Wilson. He took the words right out of my mouth! The shadow adds such depth and adds to the implied motion of her form. See what you think of a horizonal crop.

Hi Wilson, you must be real happy, not every day you get such a nice little girl's image as a "present".....Very nice of you Howard.Pnina

Yes, Pnina, not everyday...^_^ Howard, as for the location of empty space, you certainly can try both and compare. But I think Jayme & I suggested so because her head was looking right. Anyway, the overall look is still a winner!

At first, I thought the space should be on the left too, but after adding it both ways, I have to agree with Wilson about the left addition. It kicks it up a notch and makes it a little more interesting to the eyes. It's an eye catcher either way.

As a portrait artist working with pencils, these are the tonal values that I would try to capture in my work. Now uou give me Ideas on how to do it in photos. Look forward to learning from you. My latest posts have been from your examples.
