afterthoughts 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Here's what happened. I went to a local park to hunt for people fishing and other interesting things to photograph. It wasn't a particularly fruitful hunting expedition. I left the park and was driving down a single line highway feeling somewhat disappointed when I heard a voice off to my left. The voice said, "Kim Slonaker." So I looked to my left and low and behold there was this bird. I stopped right there, grabbed the camera and took three pictures before he flew way. People were blowing there horns and calling me names. What the heck, I thought. "If Kim said I should take the picture, I'm taking the picture." Link to comment
harlow_b._staley 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Great, but I might crop out the bottom wire. 7/7 Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted September 6, 2004 Great shot, Howard. I tend to agree with Harlow about the bottom wire. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Yeah ... but were you wearing fuzzy slippers & a bathrobe? ;-) Actually, it's nice - I like the detail and the angle of his head. The only thing is ... well ... the power lines. Maybe Kim would have PS-ed them into branches. You're also that talented. Go ... PS ... let us see what you can come up with. :-D Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 6, 2004 I, too, would crop out the bottom wire and I might even consider a square crop on this one. See attached for comparison. You did me proud, Howard! Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Wow Howard, what kind of bird is this, I'm bird knowledge challenged! It looks like a Hawk to me. The detail is wonderful. You know me, I like diagonal lines, so I'd leave it just as is, gives me a sense of reality! Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted September 6, 2004 You guys are correct. Kim, thanks for the inspiration. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted September 6, 2004 Nice capture, especially with people honking at you! I agree with single power line suggestion. I may be out in the left field here, but I find the fact that above the power line, the tree branches are completely gone (as if someone trimmed them off exactly to match the power line) somewhat strange and unnatural. Perhaps the original image had some tree branches at the right, and perhaps they should have been left in the shot? Still, a very good capture. ^_^ Link to comment
armindo_lopes 1 Posted September 6, 2004 That's a nice composition and the sharpness is really good. It would be better with another sky but it depends on mother nature... Link to comment
bryan olesen 0 Posted September 7, 2004 I like your KS story almost as much as the photo. Job well done Howard! Link to comment
james_alexander 0 Posted September 7, 2004 Not that it affects the picture, but this red tailed hawk is perched on a telephone cable, not a power line. (And for some reason the sky is lighter above the cable than below it.) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 8, 2004 Very Nice capture Howard, good influence of kim... Pnina Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted September 8, 2004 I have nothing more to add than what's already been said. Nice capture! Link to comment
