christian deichert 1 Posted May 8, 2001 Very nice. Sky looks a little burned in towards the right, so you lose some mountains; perhaps adjust 20 degrees left. Link to comment
ron_meyer 0 Posted May 17, 2001 Fantastic! I love it as is, but as I scrolled by browser down a little, i chopped off the horizon and the mountains so I just saw the background ending a little beyond where the crack ends visually. I think it has a greater impact to the viewer without the distant distraction, the eye clearly wants to probe just along the crack (at least my eye anyway). So maybe try cropping out the background and see what you think. Just my thoughts, I wonder what others think? Great photo, keep up the good work! Link to comment
frankl 6 Posted May 17, 2001 Jeff - excellent eye for angles and detail. keep up the good work Link to comment
andy_graham 0 Posted May 26, 2001 to me.....the suggested crop is more pleasing to the eye,graphically....but the mountains create a sense of place..at any rate it is your call and your shot and a darn good one,as are most of yours Link to comment
james___ 0 Posted June 3, 2001 Jeff, I see your still producing great images. I like this. Printed very nicely too. My only critique is to burn down the right hand top edge a little. My eye kept going for it. Raceway? James from San Diego. Link to comment
mark_jacobs1 0 Posted June 13, 2001 For me the white sky isn't so bothersome. I also think the little strip of background is part of makes the photo work. I would leave it as is. Link to comment
joe_decker1 0 Posted June 17, 2001 I like the photo better with the strip of sky left in. I like the sense of place it creates, as well as the sense of 'level' -- with the crop people are talking about, the picture to my eye looks a little tilted. Finally, the suggested crop doesn't leave (to my eye) enough room between the cones and the edge of the photo, and draws my eye out of the picture frame, which I find undesirable. Your mileage may vary, of course. Link to comment
jeff_loomis 0 Posted July 13, 2001 Great photo! I love the composition. The placement of the large cracks and cones is perfect. I like it with the top cropped down, because there is a nice tension with my eye moving back and forth between the junction of the cracks and the cones near the edge. However, it is quite a different photo that way, and I like it just as much the way it is. It's purely a matter of preference. Link to comment
beth_creswell 0 Posted July 31, 2001 wow! i think this is really gorgeous. i love strong form and texture, but it's hard to achieve it the way you have and preserve a nice, level, eye-pleasing quality as you have. and i vote for leaving the 'context' in, no cropping. congratulations. jay_fraser 0 Posted August 4, 2001 Nice detail and exposure. Interesting composition. I suppose my only real sort of negative comment (made without knowing what lens was used) is the slight bend to the horizon line. Link to comment
jairo_leiva 0 Posted August 13, 2001 You know how much I like your work, since I saw it in PB. I like the textures and your creativity. Link to comment
panyitu 0 Posted September 9, 2001 It is my believe that cropping can be suggested when it doesnt affect the overall story-picture in a sensible way. In this case the cropping suggested would make a hole new picture altogether, a very good one also, but a different entity. Link to comment
steve_bingham 0 Posted December 18, 2001 Don't even THINK of changing one small bit of this image. It flat works! Awesome. Link to comment
mike_sea 0 Posted April 27, 2002 Great shot - maybe over analyised. I love the cvraks within the cracks and the whitches hats that easily add much to the shot in terms of context without taking from the image. Great work Jeff Mike Sea Link to comment
marshall 0 Posted May 17, 2002 Probably my favorite of your many excellent shots, Jeff. The strong graphic of the ditch combine with the textural detail in the mud flats to make it compelling. The composition giving us the horizon at the top completes it the image. I think the amount of the horizon works; if it were to change, it would be only very slightly. The only nit to pick is the slightly tilted horizon. With the horizon straight, this could make a fantastic large fine art print. Enjoy. Link to comment
charles_eustace2 0 Posted August 6, 2002 Still one of my favorites. I hope someday you try film. You are real good and your work with a good medium to large format camera toned on fiber would finish the package. Link to comment
