wingell 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Here's an impromptu portrait taken in a supermarket parking lot. Your critiques and comments are always welcome. Thanks...Bill Link to comment
rascal64 9 Posted August 30, 2004 another great shot tainted by a parked car. Too bad you can't get some controlled shots of her...fabulous look. I can't rate it because of the Honda. But your model gets a 7... Link to comment
adomavicius 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Agree with the member who posted before me. The cars ruin the picture. And the model is fantastic. Seems like a person who knows how to party :) Link to comment
wingell 0 Posted August 31, 2004 When I posted this image, I intended to list it under the "street" category because, essentially, that's what it is: a street shot. At the last moment, I decided to call it a "portrait." Big mistake. "Portrait" seems to confer a lot of aesthetic baggage--especially carless backgrounds. It was a parking lot, people: we were surrounded by cars. The subject graciously gave me a few minutes of her time to shoot a handful of photos after I admired her tattoo. I also took a few shots of her young daughter, who was anxious to leave. If it happens that I'm able to photograph Sara again, it will probably take place on a downtown street corner. With more cars--even trucks and buses--in the background. I hope it doesn't ruin the picture for some viewers again. Link to comment
erin.e 0 Posted September 1, 2004 Great capture Bill, you have got the personality of this very interesting woman down pat. Its sharp and the expression is wonderful. Perhaps a few of those moaning about the background should try to get a such definitive image on the hoof. Well seen and done 6+6 Link to comment
brandonhamilton 0 Posted September 2, 2004 I don't particularly find anything that spectacular about this capture, other then it's proper exposure and focus. It's a shame such a beautiful woman has chosen to do that to herself. Link to comment
adomavicius 0 Posted September 3, 2004 I agree with Brandon. Also - the author suggests that the NEXT time he will take a picture with trucks and cars in the shot on purpose... Which is what we've all been saying: THis shot is a close portrait shot, with the subject semi-isolated. The fact that it is NOT isolated is why we claim this picture to be inperfect. Now, a shot of her on a downtown corner with trucks and cars around her would be a completely different piece. It would be an environmental portrait, with no NEED to isolate the subject. dankapsner 0 Posted September 8, 2004 Strong portrait. I get an intense sense of the person. IF the cars must go (and I'm not convinced they need to) they could be removed in PS. And for those who dislike her choices of adornment, I get the feeling that she could not care less! Link to comment
Alex_Es 388 Posted March 13, 2006 I love this shot. The parked car makes for an interesting background, in my view. It puts the lady in context. It makes this shot more spontaneous and the wonderful expression takes on more meaning. You simply could not get a shot like this in a studio. Link to comment
