The marine mammal protection act forbids one to approach these and other marine mammals (including whales) closer than 100 meters at least in the US and Canada. It is quite acceptible if they approach you. I generally wait very quietly and with a minimum of movement. I am almost always rewarded by many seals checking me out, often as close as 2 meters. One needs to be quick and avoid movement or they will submerge quickly. Link to comment

Coho 2 Posted August 23, 2004 25% crop meaning original is 4 times larger. iso 1000 with minimal Noise Ninja 2.0. 600mm equivalent with VR on. Seal was about 5 meters away. Link to comment
