When I first saw this photograph I uttered "Wow" under my breath. This is the sort of image for me that is inspiring, striking and definately appealing. The contrast between the rich warm tones of the field, the deep blue sky and the white clouds is nothing short of wonderful. Well done!

Eric did you consider a crop just above the cloud formation? I think this would emphasize the repetition in the shapes found both in the primary tuft of grass and the cloud -- both shaped by the same force I might add.

Thanks folks.

David - This started as something of an experiment - I wanted to see if I could make an interesting photograph in the middle of the afternoon (which is the case here). It turned out better than I thought it would.

The cloud and it's 'matching' figure in the grass are the main thing that motivated me, but the composition doesn't feel quite right to me either as is. Cropping from the top loses those wispy clouds which add to the feeling of the wind I think. Someone suggested to me that it would have been even stronger if I could have symmetrically matched those wisps in the sky with the wisps in the foreground grass, which I think is an even better idea.

These kinds of photos really get composed 'on the fly' because the clouds are moving and changing so quickly. I have a lot of fun looking for relationships between sky and ground while it lasts.

Thanks,

Eric

Right now I'm lying in amongst that grass, watching the clouds drift past, myself drifting in and out of sleep. Every so often something tickling my cheek semi waken's me and I brush it off. Might be a blade of grass swept up by the wind that's washing over me, might be bug, doesn't really matter. And what I'm thinking at that moment is that if those clouds are moving fast, what would they look like over a long exposure, and what would the grass look like, the single static element in the entire picture being you, after using the timer on the camera and lying smack down in the middle of that grass, waiting for the long exposure to complete...

I'm imagining being able to see just the slightest curvature of the Earth in a wide shot like this. Something which is entirely appropriate, imo. My landscape eyes are loving this and make me wish I had something (a lens obviously) of shorter focal length than 28mm...
