Near the famous Staten Island Ferry is another, smaller ferry

system, traveling to a nearby island from lower Manhattan. Here the

ferry boat has just shoved off with a load of cars and passengers.

Your ratings and critiques are most welcome. Please submit a

helpful and constructive critique if you rate low or harshly/Please

share your superior photographic knowledge to help me advance my

photographic skills.) Thanks and Enjoy. John

Does it appear to anyone that the reflections off the drive-on/drive-off ramp plus the areas of light on this ferry photo create a giant cross image or the image of a '+' sign, for an interesting compositional element? J

Actually, I thought it was a capital "H". If you squint a bit so the blacklose all detail it looks like a Transformer! I want to fold it up and see if it turns into the Space Shuttle...And I suppose it's a good thing this is not a ferry in France, so you are not asking us to help you "advancer" your skills again!? Loved the old dame, BTW...

Lee Park, there's a great big smile on my face -- you are right, it does seem to form a giant "H", although I wonder, actually, what vegetable matter you are smoking if you see somehow a way to fold this to become the space shuttle! And, for all the kidding and sometimes snideness I get for asking others to help me "advance" my skills, I actually do get wonderful suggestions, and the ones I get I take very seriously. See my Previews or temporary folder for some wonderful ones -- I will act on most of them, and that's exactly why I put up that folder. I will take it down soon, I think, incorporating the suggestions people (like yourself) have made. Sometimes, I even react, like Peter B. who suggested I take more care in cutting off the tops of peope's heads, which I often do for artistic reasons, but I'm now much more aware of when I do and don't (although I continue to do for artistic reasons much of the time).

And By the Way? Which Old Dame? If you mean the cafe person in Paris with a bier, that's a guy . . . or at least I think so. If you mean the old woman in Budapest Metro, that's a gypsy woman, I've been told.

I'm now curious "which old dame?" Let me know would you. (My e-mail's down for now, until I clean it up). Thanks for stopping by; I always enjoy your comments, John.

This photo seems to have confounded the raters, with ratings from 3s to 7, and bundles around highs ratings and mediocre ratings. Frankly, I'm surprised. Although among my absolutely first photos, it's among my most treasured. I have found that photos with texture and subtle plays on shadows do not seem to go well with the PN audience -- perhaps a problem of first viewing in thumbnail. j
