d2f 0 Posted August 21, 2004 Nice image, the dark areas help frame and isolate the subject. Yet it is missing the prime element of a portrait. The subject does not connect with the viewer, the eye to eye contact is missing. In some cases an image may not require direct eye to eye contact, but in those cases the subject's eyes are clearly viewing something off camera. In this case the eyes are looking towards the viewer and the direct eye contact is strongly suggested, otherwise the subject is viewing something behind the viewer's head, hence the connection is missing between the two worlds.
