Not a particularly great image, just interesting circumstances. I

had been panning cars with the 400mm f2.8 L and 1.4x converter with

Ektar 25 film at 1/350s, when I noticed the Audi R8 going too wide on

the corner. Sure enough he slid into the tire wall at low speed

about 30 feet away. At this moment JJ Lehto has it in reverse and is

backing up. I quickly attempted to focus and shot off 3 frames

within seconds before he took off. All at 1/350 with the lens on a

monopod, I never had time to go for a faster shutter speed, and of

course it had to happen when I had a very slow film/lens

combination. This is the only frame that was near sharp. I see I

had the plane of focus running right through the back of his helmet -

close but no cigar! One of those photos where autofocus may have

helped. Thank-you.

OK, but if you don't attempt shots like this you'll never develop the skills to capture them in future. Maybe 3 shots was too much and you would've been better off trying for just one. Keep shooting. IMHO you're moving in the right direction. ;-)
