Those Anna's Hummingbirds you have out west are much more colorful than the Ruby Throated variety we have here in the east. Great shot, and please tell us more about how you captured it.

Very nice. Obviously you have great detail here but I also like the 3/4 facial portrait you have captured on the bird. The bokeh is fantastic. The darkness really makes the sunlit bird pop out. The pirch is a simple branch so you don't have to worry about foreground blurriness. What can I say..just a great shot.

It is a beautiful hummingbird and a crisp shot. The placement of the bird and the loss of focus towards the the tail have contributed significantly to this photo. I personaly have been drawn to the eye and the beak.

So none of these hummers are Anna's hummingbirds. They are one of the Selasphorus hummers - either a Rufous or an Allen's, which are pretty difficult to tell apart unless they are 1.) males and 2.) in full breeding plummage. Sometimes you can also eliminate one or the other by range or time of year. I would only be guessing if I said this was an Allen's or a Rufous. They are very difficult (but not impossible) to tell apart.

Nice photos though.
